Sounds like your Outlook is either offline or it is polling the wrong
email server (ie wrong server name inputted during account
configuration).

"Not sure if this will work for Outlook, but give it a try anyway.
I had a similar problem, with a box requiring me to "enter user name and
password for the following server" each time I opened Outlook Express. This
happened after my ISP changed my connection from a set-up box (TV Cable) to a
direct modem connection. Prior to this change I did not get this prompt.

I got round the problem as follows:- in Manage Identities, ensure the
"Require a Password" box is blank under File - Main Identity - Properties.
Then in Tools - Accounts - select Default - click Properties - select Server
tab - tick Remember Password" and enter it if prompted. Then click Apply and
OK. Good luck.

This has nothing to do with Outlook.

After months of pulling out my hair, I went out and Purchased the upgrade
from Outlook 2003 to 2007, but it STILL WONT SAVE THE PASSWORD.

But, now I qualified for Microsoft support, and guess what, the first guy
took me through the same circus we have been going through here, but the next
one was PURE GENIUS!

Here was the Resolution/Recommendations: -
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders\AppData". AppData is of type REG_EXPAND_SZ and should contain
the value: "%userprofile%\Application Data" - when password prompt in outlook

I DONT HAVE TO ENTER MY PASSWORD ANYMORE :)
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY !!!!!

Hope this helps someone else.

This has been driving me nuts. It just started today and I've had Outlook
2007 for a few months. Where is the resolution you suggest entered? Is it a
link to a web page?

It was included in the very message you quoted. It is a registry change.
The message you quoted described that change. It applies to Windows XP
only, though.

Well unfortunatly I have Windows Vista which I'm not happy with either.
Maybe someone has a similar solution for Vista.

It would be very similar, only the correct data value would be
"%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming".

I followed the instructions below, thinking YAY! At Last! and got to the bit
where the box said %userprofile%\application data - but nothing happened. I
didn't have to change anything, and so Outlook is STILL asking me for a
password... <sigh> and anyway, what does the "when password prompt in
Outlook" mean? Should I have to type this into the box as well as the
%userprofile% bit?

It means that when the AppData key is not define, Outlook can't save the
password because it doesn't know where some of its data is. You certainly
don't type the registry key name into the password prompt. Did you also see
this? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/236032
