Anyway to password protect a folder?

1. Use permissions.

How to disable Simple Sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in
Windows XP (Pro only)

HOW TO: Set, View, Change, or Remove File and Folder Permissions in
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308418

By default in XP Home, you can only make files and folders under My
Documents "private". Otherwise, to see the security tab in WinXP Home,
restart in Safe mode and log on with an account that has administrator
privileges. To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly tap the F8 key as the
computer is starting up. This will get you to the menu where you can
choose Safe Mode.

2. Or zip the file and password-protect it. When you do (right click a
folder, then "send to > compressed folder") and then open the zip file,
you will find an option under file>"add a password".

3. Or Google "password protect folders" for third-party solutions.

not a good idea.
the first thing to happen is you forget the password.
been done way too many times.
if your data is sensitive.
keep it on removable media and take it with you.

Use something like truecrypt to create a virtual volume
that is password protected. Go to truecrypt.org to find
out more.
Its open source and free.
Easy to use with no performance hit.

After you create the volume and mount it, it logically looks like
any other windows disk drive and when you dismount it, it
looks like any other windows file, except that it is encrypted
and unreadable by anyone. You can copy it, email it with no
corruption problems.
