password problems

My operating system is xp pro. I passworded my computer following the
usual on screen commands, rebooted entered my password and got that awful
message saying " wrong password." I was, and still am 110% certain I did
everything right. Is this a windows problem? Can anybody shed any light on
what went wrong. Fortunately I had everything backed up , I did a system
recovery and managed to retreive most of my infomation.

Did you create a password recovery disk? Did you create a good password Hint? This is the only way to be absolutely sure that you cannot be locked out of the system by a lapse in memory or other circumstances.

See the following article for the step by step instructions.

How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer that is not a domain member in Windows XP:

I can't shed any light on the subject but this site has the tools to
get you into your system even if you forgot your password. I've used
it a couple of times for friends that forgot their admin password.
