password oddities....

Winxp runs like a charm, however once I'm (or any user) is
automatically logged off after some set amount of inactivity I can't
log back on as any user or admin. I get the "did you forget your
password error". There isn't any indication of any other problem, num
lock, cap key etc. just the pass error. A reboot ensues and everything
is fine again, until that time out auto logout. I know that can be
changed, but we like/ prefer that setup and would like to get it
working properly again. I haven't done anything really unusal lately.
Regular updates are run, there is no virus or spyware? The system ran
fine, with the auto log off feature etc. for quite a while before this
started. I did install IIs recently but I wouldn't suspect it? And
leaving it shut down has no effect on the situation.

Any help would be appreciated....thanks!

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW

The scan completed without notice of effect.

I got fed up and did a repair install.. also to no effect. So I guess
it would have to be narrowed down to hardware (keyboard?) or an
application I have installed. I will switch it out them remove the
latest installed software if that doesn't do it?
