Is there a way to set passwords for individual files and folders on XP? When I right click on a folder and select "sharing and security" I am able to "share this computer on the network" and to "enable outside users to change my files" but I don't see anything about setting passwords for it. I am setting up a network for a client of mine, who has a combination of Windows XP and Windows 98 computers. I know that you can do this on the 98 machines (although the passwords don't seem to actually work), but I'm wondering if I can do it on the XP machines. I realize that the best approach would probably be to set up a server with user specifications, but I'm not sure my client wants to incur that kind of expense. I have also heard that XP Pro is better about security and encryption, so I might try that if I can't figure out something here. So, long story short, can I enable passwords for shared folders, and if so, how?
