"Pass through" digitizing problem

I'm using my Sony Digital Camcorder's pass through to digitize VHS and Hi8
analog material. It gets from the Digital Camcorder to the PC via firewire.
My problem is that only DVD Movie Factory 2 (so far) will let me deselect
the automatic control of the camcorder function. When I use MS Moviemaker
(which I like better) and go to record, the camcorder starts to playback and
overrides the VHS or Hi8 tape input.

Any ideas on how to disable Moviemaker's control over the camcorder or
another simple video capture program that works with a pass through set up.

You say "it" starts to play back - does that mean there is a tape in the
Digital Camcorder?

Hello there,

You must remove the tape you have in your DV camera, and if possible you
must ensure that the AV -> DV option on your DV camera is enabled as well

Which version of Movie maker are you using?
Pass through was broken in MM2.0 due to a bug. You need 1.0 or 2.1 for it to
work.

Hello,

That is not correct. This machine has version 2.0 AND works perfectly
with passthrough. If someone with version 2.0 had problems it will be
because of a poorly set-up machine/software

Hi John,
How are you now?
If you have V2 and pass through you are doing well, it was a major problem
when 2 was launched that it did not support pass through.

Hello,

I have been unaware of it and am using V2 to capture from my large
Panasonic Camera...no problems here and I have definitely got messages in
this newsgroup where people were advised on how to do it and then reports of
success a long time prior to SP2....bit of a puzzle that!!

I just needed to take the tape out of the camcorder.

Now, if I can use the pass through to capture from my old home movies.
Super 8 (no sound) (1969) to Hi8 (1991 w/ microphone narration) then to VHS
(1995) now to double layer DVD; I'll have it done.
