I have a system running Windows XP Pro w/ SP2. I formatted it a while ago and
turned my 30-gig HD into two partitions, a 20-gig and 10-gig. I installed
Windows onto the 20-gig partition and used the 10-gig partition for storage
and backup purposes. I created these partitions by booting off my XP Pro CD
and creating the partitions in Windows Setup. I started to have problems with
Windows and the system bogging down, so I decided to format and reinstall
again. I booted from the same CD again, and to my dismay Windows Setup said I
only had 1 30-gig partition. My Computer and Disk Management would show both
partitions though. So I found some space to backup my 10-gig partition and
reformatted the whole 30-gigs and recreated the partitions through Windows
Setup. Now that school is out for Winter Break, I have had time to play with
my system. I booted from the CD again to see if it once again showed 1
partition or 2 partitions. Windows Setup shows that I still only have 1
30-gig partition while My Computer and Disk Management show a C: of 20 gig
and a D: of 10 gig. What I would like to be able to do is only format the
20-gig partition and reinstall Windows on this partition and not have to
delete the 10-gig partition since its purpose is to be used for storage and
backup. Is there any reason why Windows Setup will only show 1 partition
being the whole hard drive instead of the 2 separate partitions that I
created through Windows Setup? Also, if this is the way Windows Setup works,
how can I tell my computer to just format the 20-gig partition and leave the
10-gig partition alone and then recreate the 20-gig partition and reinstall
Windows on it? Thanks!!
