Partitioning problem

I have a 300gb HDD which I have partitioned using partition magic 8.0. The C
partition is 199 GB and the E partition is 86 GB. The problem I have is that
the C partition is showing the whole of the 199gb as being used when in fact
only about 45GB is actually being used. All I have on the C partition is my
os (XP Pro ) and most of my programs). If I right click on my computer it
shows as having 152gb free space but partition magic shows 199gb as being
used. PM has also changed the label of the partition from Windows XP to ?n?
whatever that means.

It has also stopped me from doing anything to the C partition so I cant
resize or do anything with it. It is showing C as a primary partition and E
as a logical partition. Please help me

the symptom sounds like pm didn't
fix your mft (master file table)

don't remember too much on how to fix
this but if it were me then i
would research this clue at microsoft.com,
and see if a "chkdsk" and "fixmbr" commands
applied to this issue.

also, i am pretty sure that a windows repair
via the setup cd could help too.

as an earnest suggestion, don't use
pm anymore because you may get into real trouble.

fortunately, this is the first clue you got from it and
your recovery seems to be simple. however, if
you had made some multiple modificatons with it,
you would have likely been in deep-s**t.

I bought acronis disk director and it has
done an excellent job of managing my mood and
partitions....
