Partition Magic 8 error #1516 can't access windows

I am getting the error #1516 when trying to resize the partition on my
hard drive using pm 8 when booting the computer. XP will not boot up
all the way and I cannot access the dos either... I only get a black
blank screen when it is in the middle of loading xp. So, I can't do the
disk check to clear the error. Also, I can't get into the recovery with
a dos prompt.. I can't get any dos prompt - even through safe mode
(which also freezes in the middle of xp loading).

Overall, I wanted to resize the hard drive so I could install a new xp
and collect my files on to a portable hard drive and then wipe out the
drive and install xp one more time... Is there another way of getting
ride of the error so I can partition the drive and install a second xp?

Thanks!

I have tried their website and the information there has not helped me,
since I cannot access windows and I cannot access the the repair part
of the installation disk because we don't know our administration
password. Maybe there is something I missed there, but I can't how any
of their solutions help me.

Have you tried booting from the XP CD and pressing enter when to password is
asked for. Sometimes the admin password is left blank. Also there are tools
to recover a lost password.

You can reset the password and boot from the xp cd and start by running
chkdsk. Depending on the result you can decide what action to take. Repost
if you need more help.
