Hi,

my previous XP is crashed, so I decided to reinstall it. So I keep the
previous partition. and also I decide to install windows 2000 and windows xp
professional. First, I install windows 2000, when I install win 2000, I
notice one of logic partition in the last position (Fat 32) is not been
recoginzed, windows 2000 consider it as free disk. So I don't care that,
Actually, that partition keeps some data and formatted well. So I continue to
install windows 2000, and then install windows XP, the strange thing
happened, when I access into xp, I can see and operate that partition,
however, when I access into windows 2000, I only see this partition is free
disk. I am not sure what happened, although I think partition table has some
problem. If anybody knows what the problem is? could I fix it without
reinstalling two system? Or if I keep this situation, is it potenial problem
happened in the future? thank you very much!

Open MyComputer and find out which partition Win2K install to. Look for
winnt folder. When you find out the partition
number C:\ is 1 D:\ is 2 etc. then go to WinExplorer>Tools>Folder
Options>View>click on Show hidden files and
folders and uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then in
MyComputer click on the WinXP drive icon and look
for boot.ini file. Open file and it will look something like the one
below
[boot loader]
timeout=25
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="WinXP"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Win2000" /noexecute=optin
/fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

That last number (4) and (5) should match the partition numbers the
operating systems are on.
Mine happen to be on 4 and 5. Yours will probably be different. But,
change that number in ( ) to the correct partition number your Win2k is on.

hi,

Thank you for your reply. Actually, my case is windows xp and windows 2000
can access correctly, the only thing is one partition can be recognized
properly in windows xp, while in windows 2000, that partition is only
recognized as free disk. Anyway, appreciate your explaination.

Accordin to me, the problem could be because of unmatch "Allocation Unit
Size" while formatting your partition. I suggest you to move all your data to
some another partition and reformat the partition.

Hope this help and let us know!
