Partial Recognition of Hard Drive

OK, so here's the situation (my parents went away on a week's
vacation...)

My computer is running Windows XP pro.

It's primary (master) drive used to be a 60 GB drive partitioned roughly
20/40, with the 20 as the C: drive and the 40 (E:) used for media
storage.
It also used to have a 13 GB drive (D:) in the primary slave position
which was also media storage.

I recently replaced the 13 GB drive with a new 160 GB Maxtor. In the
process of formatting and partitioning the new drive using Max Blast II
something happened to the 60 GB drive. Immediately after restarting upon
completion of the partitioning of the new drive, I would get a message
"Autochk program not found - skipping Autocheck" and the computer would
restart itself over and over again.

I took the drive out altogether and installed XP Pro on the 160 GB drive.
I then changed the jumper and put the 60 GB drive in as the Primary
Slave.
Now, the drive shows up in Disk Management as Disk 1, Basic, 57.27 GB,
and Online. In the top frame, it shows the correct amount of free space
(11 GB), but it incorrectly states the capacity as 42.94 GB. It also
shows it as "healthy" and "active".
It does not, however, show up under My Computer, and it will not let me
assign a drive letter.

Please, I really need the data on that drive. What are my options? I
don't think that there is anything physically wrong with the drive, I
just can't get at it...

Thank you so much for any help...
