paper jam on canon

hi, i have a canon s4500, the paper went in skew and then jammed. i pulled
the paper slowly out from the front and turned the printer off then on.
The print head went into the start up sequence and i thought all was well
untill right at the end of the sequence the head went to the far left of the
printer then paused and made a ratchetting noise as i think the rubber belt
kept on moving.
The head then went to the right hand side, but not as far as the home or
final stop position and then the orange flashing light and the audio alarm
start to sound. I have tried to print a few times now but the printer makes
the noise each time so i have to turn it off.

thanks for your assistance,
grant.

I am not a technician, but I did fix a few units that displayed the same
symptoms.
Let the head release by turning it on.Unplug unit.Look to the right and finf
the white plastic head park.Rotate the white gear on the left of the unit
until you see movement on the head park mechanism.
Plug the unit back in and do a nozzle check by holding the resume button
until the unit flashes twice.
