Panasonic GS 50 digital video camera set up

Have run the disc provided with it etc but can not get to capture any video footage . Keps coming up with a rsponse of usb issue and to set the camera to web function and press ok. When you do this it will just allow you to stare at what the camera is pointed at but does not allow to to run anything else.
Anyone with any suggestions.
 
The USB connection is usually for the transfer of still images. Firewire is
for transfer of video/audio - ie moving images and sound.
