Palm hot sync

Is there a way to sync my palm pilot with out having to
open up outlook and send and recieve mail (once an
account is set up already), and get mail through outlook?
 
You shouldn't have to use send/rec mail to sync - what conduit are you
using? Chapura PocketMirror?
