Pages won't open

When I click on an icon on my desktop, the hour glass appears for about 2
seconds then stops and the page won't open. This also happens when I click
on Outlook Express. After numerous attempts, the page will open but if I try
to open another page from the page I have opened, I have to click "open in a
new window" to get the page to open.

The problem started about 3 days ago. I haven't installed any new programs
nor hardware. I'm using Windows XP, IE6, have firewall, antivirus program,
two spyware programs and use auto updates from Microsoft. All are up to date
and ran daily. I defrag weekly even if the analysis says it doesn't need to
be. I keep my drivers up to date and use internet satellite. I installed
IE7 but hated it and it made my pc SLOOOOW so I uninstalled it and returned
to IE6.

The term 'page' is a metaphor that refers to something you see on the
internet. Are you having trouble viewing information on the internet?

I'm sure you knew what I meant so since you took the time to answer, I will
try to rephrase what I said. So, "instead of a page opening," the program I
click on won't open. Thank you.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard disk and how much free space. Right click on
your C drive in Windows and select Properties to get this information.

How much RAM memory?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

cCleaner is not a tool I would use for discovering what is the problem.
