Help Help Help, i feel i am going mad

My problem is whichever programme i use, be it Word, Excel, Publisher i
cannot get the print to run to the edge of the page on A4. I have set every
printer default and preference i can find but still the print preview shows a
big space on the right hand side of the page, i have removed margins, borders
everything. I bought a new printer thinking it was my old ones fault but
still it happens. It is as if the printer ignores my call for A4 and prints
it on Letter size.

Any offers i am desperate

Older inkjet printers always had an area of the page that was unprintable.
Newer ones that print boarderless photos can overcome that, but since you
don't tell us which make and model printer you have, we're rather at a loss
to assist further.

Sorry, the printer is a HP3940. Which i bought new two days ago. I thought
the problem might have been on the computer as my old printer did the same.
