How do I get my page numbers to match the size and font of the rest of a
document?

Activate the header/footer area and apply the desired formatting to the page
number.

In some versions, the initial formatting of the page number is determined by
the settings for the Page Number character style, so an alternative approach
might be modifying that style. (I doubt that this still works in Word 2007,
though.)

By default, the page number is formatted with two styles: the Header or
Footer paragraph style and the Page Number character style applied on top of
that. By default, the Page Number style is just "Default Paragraph Font +"
(that is, the same as the Header or Footer style), so modifying the font of
the Header/Footer style should be the first recourse.

Indeed, that would be the first thing to try (assuming of course that all of
the text in the header or footer should change).
