page numbers are not showing

HELP! am trying to type a masters' thesis, using word 2007 and am spending
hours trying to put page nos. into my document. they will not show up. I
found a help article telling me to go to a directory path for
documents&settings\etc. and remove a file, but I cannot find the specified
path in my documents directory.

I am follwing the online help directions to the letter.

If you are saying that the built-in page number designs are missing, you
could try deleting the Building Blocks template. Just search for it in
Windows, then select and delete it.

I forgot to mention that you should exit Word before deleting the template.
