hi. if anybody can help, then fantastic. i want to have the page numbering
start on the 3rd page with the number one, i.e page 1 has no number, page 2
has no number, page 3 has the number one in the footer, and page 4 has the
number 2 in the footer etc etc etc. it may sound like i am asking a silly
question, but i am not exactly a fool at word, but for some reason i cannot
get this simple thing done. so if anybody can answer me with a step by step
answer then that would be superb. ta

Insert a section break (next page) at the end of your front matter.
Go into header/footer view in the new section and change the header/footer
from being same as previous.
Use the page number button to insert your page number. There is a button on
the toolbar to format page numbers. Click it and tell it to restart at 1. Go
out of header/footer view.
For more, see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/sections.htm and
