PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA BLUE SCREEN

Ed Boyd

I usually try to figure out my problems but this one has me stumped. I have
read and tried just about all there is out there. I started getting the
blue screeen of death error Page Fault in a non-paged area around early
November but not around any new installs of either hardware or software. It
doesn't happen around any specific time or action. It may happen once a day,
twice a day or go several days and I might be reading email or browsing or
just using Word/Excel?? One time it did it about 3 times in a row and gave
me the REAL Blue screen of death, requiring a recovery and image restore. I
have changed the virtual memory settings more times than there are number
combinations!! After all that I have read, I am inclined to think it is the
memory sticks but that is "enough knowledge to be dangerous!" Sure could use
some insight! Thanks in advance!

This is a driver issue which may be caused by faulty memory. Drivers live
in non paged pool.
Have you run a memory test program?

Follow the link to General Troubleshooting

A version of the Stop Error should still be in the System log in Event
Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

You could try Start, Run, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes
and hit Enter.

You might try testing your memory

Hope this helps.
