PADMan and PADbased_UpdateChecker from freewarehits.de

I'm looking forward to trying these two programs. They look quite
promising.. This site also several other tools and games including QeepIt
(PIM), ClipEd (clipboard editor), and RemoteKeys (automation, launcher,
etc). Some of these have been mentioned on ACF, others, not.

I've toyed with using another program to do what PADbased_UpdateChecker
apparently does - see if I have the latest version by checking PAD files and
thereby eliminate "phone home" updates. I've also thought of building a
personal archive based on PAD files (plus a few additions of my own). I've
speculated that a low-maintenance Pricelessware site could be built by
relying heavily on PAD files. I've even wondered if Susan's ACF links pages
and Marks ACF summary post could use PAD files to supplement their
information.

Apparently someone had similar thoughts.

PADMan v 2.7 (English/German, 470 kb)
PADMan offers access to PAD-based software libraries

"PADMan gives access to an extensive free- and shareware library that
includes descriptions, program information, screenshots and naturally a
download option. PADMan offers actual data from the internet resulting in
the latest program versions and a permanently growing library. The layout
can be filtered, formatted, printed and reworked with MS-Word. An included
offline reader saves cost and offers the user the possibility to publish his
own library (English / German).."

PADbased_UpdateChecker v 2.1 (100 kb)
Checks available updates of PAD-based programs

"PAD is a new submission standard for programmers to present their software
information to software publishers and journalists. But PAD is much more
functional. This app scrutinizes all PAD-based programs for the latest
updates and can be compaired with harddisc versions. If an update exists it
can be downloaded with one mouseclick only. The user may include any
PAD-based program to the list or remove unwanted entries."

All I know about pad files/apps is what I just read. This seems to be
oriented toward the "latest and greatest" software.

What/where is the "extensive free- and shareware library"? Is it a
master database? Is "a new submission standard for programmers" being
used for apps that are no longer being developed and/or supported by the
authors. Is someone writing pad file descriptions for older apps?

How many PL2004 programs have pad files descriptions/updates? Easy
access to information sounds great - but is the particular information I
want/need available? I spend a lot of time *googling* for program info
and often come up empty-handed. . .
