Padlock on Network Connections

P

Paul Abreu

I have a customer with an intermittant loss of network
connection. This is probably hardware related, but there
is a padlock symbol on most of the network connections
under my network places.

What does this padlock mean?

It is a Windows XP PRo (upgraded from 98) laptop, on a 5
station peer to peer lan with other XP Pros and homes.

What does this padlock mean?

I believe that padlock is XP's built in firewall. Turn off the firewall and
the network icon should be back to "normal."

It is the firewall icon.

What loss of connectivity are you experiencing? If your seeing errors during
file sharing or other tasks it is more than likely due to the firewall being
enabled on this machine.
