when I go into my network places/properties then click on
my local area connection/properties then status, I see
that a ton of packets are being sent while I am not even
on line.I am running DSL, but it happenes when I am
playing a game or when the comp is just on.No packets are
being received though? how do I stop this mass of packets
being sent to nowhere? Any help is greatly appreciated

The only way to be off-line with cable or DSL is to do some
positive action to turn it off.
1. Install Zone Alarm free www.zonelabs.com It has a
feature to block all Internet activity.
2. Turn the DSL or cable modem off.
3 Turn the computer off.

Use an Outgoing Firewall (such as free "Sygate Personal Firewall")
to stop and ask you if you want stuff like Microsoft Works update
detector from going out on the internet to see if it is uptodate. - RM
