I am having trouble with my scanner, so decided to delete everything and
reinstall. My installation disc seems to be corrupted as it will not
'autorun', however, I found a installation to download on PB website which I
did. When I open Scanners and Cameras, the icon for my scanner is there, but
I get a message 'The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera. Please
make sure the device is turned on...etc' I did unplug the scanner before I
downloaded and ran the installation programme. Has anyone any suggestions
please?

Barbara,

From this site...
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/m...PibItemParent=platform_scannerdiamond1200plus

Download and doubleclick the file to install the drivers on your system
BEFORE the scanner is connected to your system. Once the setup has finished,
the scanner can be connected and Windows XP will detect the scanner and
install the correct drivers automatically.

Did you install as per the above message?
Many scanners etc install this way. You must follow directions for
installing or they will never work.

All the best,

Hi SG,

Thank you for your reply.

I did say in my penultimate sentence that I unplugged the scanner BEFORE I
ran the program. However, just to be sure, I repeated the exercise and still
I get the message the computer cannot detect the scanner.

Any further suggestions please?

Barbara,

Forgive me as I missed the fact you did say it was off during the install.
Is the original disk bad or do you think it is because it won't autorun? Put
the disk in your drive, if nothing happens try Start-Run and click Browse.
Point it to the CD and see if there's a Setup.exe. If not try Autorun and
see what happens.

All the best,

Hello again,

Thank you so much, I was able to run the disk, followed the instructions,
installed Acrobat, put in the disc for PhotoExpress, but what do I do now? I
am so sorry to be a pain!
Barbara

Barbara,

You are not a pain :>)

The disk you have, is that the install disk for the scanner?
If so, remove everything you installed and start over making sure the
scanner is off. When you insert the CD and Autorun doesn't work do as you
did before by Start-Run.

All the best,

(Oh) Dear SG,

As you can tell, I am not very knowledgeable. My disk is to install and I
followed the instructions. It then gets to a point where it tells me to
install photo express, but not to forget to install the scanner once you have
restarted the computer. However, when I did this and put the disk in, I went
to Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras>Add device but here I get stuck. When
I get to the point where it asks 'Have Disk' I get the message 'The specified
location does not contain information about your hardware'. (I only have the
option for two drives, and knowing I can be a bit thick, I have tried both!)
What am I doing wrong? Where do I go from here?

Thank you for saying I am not a pain, but I know I am. It is my middle name!

Regards,
Barbara

(Oh) Dear SG,

As you can tell, I am not very knowlegeable. Yes, the disk is the install
disk, but it gets to a point where it asks you to install Photo Express, but
not to forget to install the scanner once you have restarted the computer. I
do this, then go to Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras>Add device which
starts the Wizard, which in turn tells you to insert disk. When I do this, I
get the message ' The specified location does not contain information about
your hardware '. (I only get the option for two drives, so knowing I can be
a bit thick, I have tried them both!) What am I doing wrong? Where do I go
from here?

Thank you for saying I am not a pain. I know I am; it is my middle name!

Barbara,

It sounds like the install files on the CD may be compressed and you have to
run a Setup or Install to uncompress them. Look on the CD from Windows
Explorer and see if there's a readme.txt or a PDF file that will show you
instructions on how to install.

All the best,

Dear SG,
I have done as you asked, but in Explorer, there are folders with: AR, FR,
Help, Panel, Tutorial, Win2K, Win98, WinME, WinXP. Below that are Icons with
Autorun (and greyed out Welcome MFC Application), Autorun (32 x 32 Icon),
Notepad Icon Autorun Set up Information - I looked at this but it was only
writing in the file! Icon: Check WinXP, Icon:Run, and lastly an Icon with
VidPid Configuration Settings.

I am sure they mean a lot more to you than they do me!!!

Barbara

The folders with AR, FR, and so on are probably language versions. The
Win2K, Win98, WinME, WinXP appears to be the driver folders. If you
highlight the WinXP folder look in the right hand pane and see if install or
setup is listed. I went back to PB original site
http://support.packardbell-europe.com/support/download/itemnr/REFFIUP05380100.asp?c=ap

According to the instructions it should be as simple as running setup with
the scanner unplugged. After installation, plug it up and XP should detect
it and install the drivers. In your original post you stated you had
problems, what problems were you having?

All the best,

Dear SG,

I looked in WinXP, but there is nothing about install or setup.

My problem in the beginning was just that the computer said I had no scanner
installed, but the scanner icon was in Scanners and Cameras. It was there
but just not communicating!

I too looked on the PB site and was very pleased to see a patch for when the
scanner just 'hangs' as that was another problem I had!!

Any ideas where I go from here?

Thanks again for all your help.

Barbara
