P4T won't turn on

Here's the story. I have an ASUS P4T mainboard in a Lian-Li PC68
case, Enermax EG465P-VE 431W PSU, P4 1.7 GHz, 2x256 Samsung Rambus,
Hercules 3D Prophet III. I built it two years ago and it's been a
wonderful system. Then, last Thursday, lightning struck in close
proximity to my tower and I believe a spark shot inside the case and
damaged the mobo. I'd turn it on and fans (all 8 of em) would spin,
hd would test, but system wouldn't boot or post. I tested every other
piece of hardware (CPU, RAM, HD, PSU, video) in a friend's Dell P4,
and it all worked perfectly. So i got a new P4T and installed it, and
after figuring out I had to reorganize my RIMMs, got it working.

Then no more than 30 minutes later, I walk into my room and the power
light on my case is blinking and video is off. I thought it might be
in standby, but it wouldn't wake up, so I pulled the plug. My first
thought was CPU overheated. Nope, it still works in my friend's Dell.
Now I try to power it on and the fans come on for a 1/4 second and
then stop. The Power and HDD LEDs do the same. I can't get it to do
this again until I have removed the power for about 10 seconds and
then plugged it back in. My CPU is currently running perfectly in my
friend's Dell. The Power Supply booted my buddy's Athlon. The memory
is just fine, and I'm using a brand new motherboard with which I can
find no problems whatsoever, aside from the fact that it shuts down
the power supply when you turn it on.

I've tried reorganizing RIMMs a million times. I tried my old mobo.
I used my friend's P4 PSU, CPU and memory. I've tried everything but
Voodoo and human sacrifice. I know this sounds like a mobo problem,
but it is brand new, and I think something is causing a conflict with
the motherboard, and the mobo is not directly responsible.

I'm lost and desperate for assistance. Please help. Email:

You know what they say about lightning..One flash and it`s ash. Time for a
new mobo.

ummmm.. ever heard of a surge protector????
If you dont get one your next mobo will be toast.
You gonna have to pay at least $40 for one that will work for lightening.

Well, I have my system connected thru a BackUPS 650, so not only do I
know about great surge protection, but battery backup. The power
lines weren't struck, the lightning grounded thru my case. Already
got a new mobo, but it's not working either. Everything else, as I
said, seems to work just fine.
