P4P800 crashes every few weeks cannot find IDE HD

Hi all,

I have an Asus P4P800 that runs 24/7, but crashes every 2-3
weeks leaving a motherboard message on the screen:

Reboot and select proper boot device

When I reboot, it does not show any IDE hard drives. When I
go into BIOS setup, it does not show any drives on the primary
channel, but does show the CD on the secondary channel.

When I turn the power off and then back on, it boot fine.

There are two 120GB disks on the primary channel. Master is
Western Digital, slave is Maxtor.

It never crashes when I sit in front of it and hammer the disks
with simultaneous check-sfv and winrar tests on both disks. I
have run the disk diags that are downloadable from both WDC and
Maxtor.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know of any diags,
or log files, or other methods to track this problem down?
Any good online forums where someone may know the problem?

Is this an RMA-able problem with the board? Is this a problem
with WDC and Maxtor not being exactly compatible?

It does it when overclocked and not overclocked. It does it with
PC2100 memory and also PC4000 memory. I haven't tried it with only
one HD, except for a short period of one week without a crash.
It passes Prime95 running for 3-4 hours. It passes Sandra burn-in
test. It passes memtest86.

This has been happening for many months, but I don't remember
if it happened when I first assembled it in October because
for the first few months I was switching parts around and I
didn't keep track of all the failures. For 3-4 months, it has
has the same parts, and a consistent crash every 2-3 weeks.
It always crashes at night running some light P2P work (emule)
when I'm not there.

Just to let you know that I have had the same problem with my P4P800 Deluxe,
with 2 hard drives on the primary channel and 2 CDROMs on secondary.
Sometimes, the 2 primary IDE drives are just not detected, thus prompting
the "Reboot and select boot device" message.

I tried replacing the supplied Asus IDE cable with a different one, making
sure it was seated firmly. So far, the problem has not repeated, but I am
not so confident that was the cause. Anyone have further suggestions?
