P4C800E DeLuxe overclocking?

Hi all,
The board works well enough, but I'm a bit disappointed as to the o/c
results- or was I expecting too much?

Memory (4 pcs Twinmos Dual Ch 400MHz of 256mb each) 2-2-3-6
FSB = 230
Vcore = 1.75V
Vddr = 2.85V

This is max or Win XP won't start...
Was expecting more after reading the reviews, FSB 300 ???
Any room for improvements?

Benchmarked the HD (Samsung 160Gb-SATA) via Sandra @ 37981.
Is that good?
How do I know XP is using the correct settings for the disk?
Set mode to "Busmaster" in the bios, but in XP there's nothing special
in the Hardware, or should I use a special driver?

Seems your system is missing a CPU;-)

Are you sure that the TwinMOS chips love being o'c'ed?

Thanks Roy,
What I noticed was I had to up the DDR voltage, or I was stuck at CAS
2.5.
So I'll run Sandra again setting the memory at SPB.
BTW- CPU is P4-2.8-800.

On my P4P800_Deluxe I have 2x512MB TwinMOS CL2.5 (with Winbond chips)
and those don't like being o'ced.
BTW:
The O'C experts use to communicate in
alt.comp.hardware.overclocking

- FSB @ 248 1.675v
- DDR @ 5:4 default voltage (320Mhz setting, which is 396Mhz at my 248 FSB)
- AGP @ 80 1.6v

Stable under Sandra2004 burnin test with 5 loops. Top temp was 52'C with
stock cooling and no extra case fase. Case temp around 32'C.

CPU is a 2.6Ghz P4. At 248FSB it comes in at 3.25Ghz.

Video is an ATI 9600XT

Memory is a single 512meg Kingston PC3500/DDR433. Timings are 2-3-3-7.

....AND I should be recieving a pair of OCZ PC4200 256meg sticks of memory
today so I can run 1:1!

Sound OK? Any tests/benchmars I should run and post here?

But you should be able to run at 1:1 *easily* using the PC3500 memory. Set the DRAM Frequency to [400] with
the FSB speed at 216. Disable Advanced->Chipset->Spread Spectrum (because otherwise it prevents the ability
to overclock the FSB with the DRAM set to 400MHz.) Now you will have 3.25Ghz and the DRAM working at full
speed.

You have the stock standard fan on your CPU? It'll pop before you can utilise the full potential of the
PC4200 DRAM. That memory and a vapochill cooled CPU would make a pefect match. :)

ahhh, yes... It's a lovely stifling hot summer day in New Zealand. Perfect overclocking conditions ;-)

If my FSB is set to 216 my CPU will only be running 2.8Ghz.

Oops. You're quite right. I have my CPU on the brain.
I did try this setting and 400Mhz on the memory, but it wouldn't boot. Not
sure what state the Spread Spectrum was though.

Spread Spectrum is set to [Enabled] by default. You need to go into BIOS and disable it. If it isn't already,
also try setting Advanced->Chipset->"Configure DRAM Timing to SPD" to [Enabled].

Woo-hoo! I set the FSB clock to 235MHz to give me 3.5GHz. I thought 3GHz P4s weren't supposed to be good
overclockers.

That's not good. It's shit. A 3Ghz chip at 3.5Ghz. That's a 16% overclock.
Not worth much more than you paid for.

What about a P4 1.6A at 2.5Ghz. That's a 56% overclock. Intel probably
didn't even have a 2.5Ghz chip back then when the 1.6A was for sale.

Finally got my PC4200 memory today... I said I'd post some results, so here
they are.

System is currently running:
P4 2.6Ghz 800Mhz:
- FSB @ 250Mhz = 3.35Ghz
- 1.675 volts
- Stock Intel heatsink/fan
- 32'C at idle and up to 52'C under continuous Sandra 2004 burnin

OCZ DDR533/PC4200 memory
- 1:1 ratio = 500Mhz (underclocked, I know)
- 2.5-4-4-8 timings (where should I lower this to take advantage of the
underclocking?)
- 2.75volts

ATI 9600XT AGP video
- 72.7Mhz
- 1.6volts
- PCI bus @ 36.36Mhz

Haven't had a lot of time to tinker. CPU doesn't seem stable over 250Mhz and
without a better heatsink I probably shouldn't push it harder. Should be
able to lower DDR voltage or timings a bit. I guess I could have gotten away
with DDR500/PC4000 memory with lower timings.

Comments? Suggestions?
