Abit NF7-S Vs. A7N8X Deluxe + Twinmos memory ok?

Sorry if this has been discussed lots of times :S

Been looking at getting the Asus A7N8X deluxe v2.0 for a new build but am
increasingly tempted by the NF7-S v2.0 instead which is marginally cheaper.

I will probably be intending to use the onboard SATA and overclocking to get
a 400mhz bus speed using a 2500+ barton (hope to get a bit more out of it.)

Will ether be using Samsung, Crucial (more likely than samsung) or Twinmos
(very tempted due to price/given speed & latency.)

Thanks in advance.

If you're only intending to get to 200Mhz FSB then any PC3200 ram will do. I
picked mine up from a computer fair for £55. It's an ADATA (never heard of
'em either) 512Mb PC3200 CL2.5. Got it in synch with my 1800XP (10 X 200) on
an Abit NF7-S.

I heard Samsung and Twinmos are very good for overclockers who want to get
above 200 FSB. But the Crucial is CL3 DIMMs and tend to be more expensive
than Twinmos.

The Twinmos I'm looking at right now is rated at CL2 latency and isn't much
more than Crucial RAM :) So I'm definitely getting that then. Cheers...

If you are interested in overclocking definitely get the ABIT. over the
ASUS, all you will lose is a 2nd integrated NIC.
What you will gain is more options in BIOS incl. more multipliers than the
ASUS will allow & an active northbridge cooler.

1 thing to watch out for is that the NF7-S tends to undervolt the CPU very
slightly compared to the BIOS setting & this can cause some instability
until you up the voltage.

Re. the memory, if you can get TwinMOS with Winbond chips (komplett stock
it) then it is excellent at a decent price.
Even although it is oficially rated at CL2.5 it will almost certainly run
CL2 & high FSBs.

I bought 2 sticks of twinmos w/winbond from komplett at £52 EACH. 2 weeks
later it was down to £32! Looks like it's going up again now though.

I use this stuff in my NF7-S, but I'm not convinced about lower timings.
This could be becasue weird stuff happens in my machine when I do FSB200,
but that's for another thread.

I've been using the Twinmos cas2 pc3200(not winbond) from Komplett for a few
weeks without any issues.
Abit NF7s xp2400@ 200fsbx10.5 ram timings 6332.

What's the timings about? If I infer from what I have seen elsewhere you
have your CAS latency set at 6 but I guess I'm wrong.

Rubbish.
It's VERY likely he'll run into problems with cheap RAM. You've been lucky.

Stick to Corsair/Mushkin, or Crucial/TwinMOS if you're on a budget.
