P4C800-E: WHY DOES THE BIOS INSIST ON 3RD IDE CHANNEL FOR BOOT DISK?

My P4C800-E mobo bios (rev. 1019) insists on making the third channel
the primary IDE. There is only my boot drive connected, but the system
ignores the primary IDE channel and puts the drive on the 3rd channel.
Worse, my two CD-ROM drives are on the secondary channel (where they
should be). It works, but it's annoying, to say the least, that I can't
get the damned board to put the drive on the first IDE channel.

Any sanity saviors out there?

Because the FIRST PATA controller is the THIRD IDE controller.

Shouldn't make any difference. Set it to boot from whatever HDD you want and
leave it that way. It shouldn't affect usage.

Aaahh, ok, thanks for that.
