I personally would not upgrade this machine to XP. With at least 256MB
of RAM, it might run although it will be slow. Run the Windows Upgrade
Advisor first. It comes on the XP cd but it would be smart to download
it from here first rather than buy XP:
Think carefully about why you want to upgrade. Make sure that all your
hardware is adequate and that the software you usually run is
compatible with XP.
If you increase the RAM to at least 256MB, it won't be a speed
demon, but it will be usable if the applications you run aren't
terribly demanding (for example, don't try to edit large
photographic images). As a matter of fact, that's the
configuration my wife runs--a P2-400 with 256MB. Her uses are
modest--E-mail, web browsing, some light word processing--and she
finds it adequate.
