overwrote registry Office 2007 w/ old registry containing Office 2

I have messed up my Office 2007. Yesterday I was removing a trojan horse
that I believe must have come in the horrible e-mails we get in huge quantity
at work . I had made a backup of the registry, but because I had disabled
the system restore in order to prevent the virus from hiding in the backups,
now I can't go back before the following big blunder.

At one point I deleted what I thought was a registry entry of the virus, but
because thought I might have made a mistake in in the registry, I clicked on
a registry backup that I thought was from yesterday, but which was from a
year ago when I still had Office 2003. This added registry entries from the
old Office 2003. Now when I start the computer or when I try to open any of
the Office 2007 programs, or open Internet Explorer, or run a search of the
folders, these all will open and are usable, but with a bunch of Windows
Installer messages calling for the "Pro11.msi" that it says should be in the
MSO Cache folder, but which is not there (or anywhere in the computer). I
see that this is an Office 2003 component. My MSO Cache folder has
installers for Office 2007 in it.

I would like to remove the improper Office 2003 entries and leave Office
2007 intact. Probably best is that I admit to our IT technician that I have
really messed this up, but I am in hot water with him already, because I have
had so many computer problems before. In the Add-Remove Programs program,
Office 2003 is listed along with its security updates. Please tell me
whether this is supposed to be there still, or that I should maybe remove it,
which might fix all of my problems.

I have noted or done the following:
1. I restored the registry backup made yesterday and then deleted the
trojan horse again, but properly. The computer however said that it did not
restore some of the registry items, because these were in use or...... (I
can't remember).
2. I ran the scannow sfc to fix system problems using the uncorrupted I386
information.
3. I ran Microsoft Office Diagnostics for Office 2007 to repair these
programs, which says it found and fixed 1 problem.
4. Because the same error messages still come up after my attempts, I tried
to run the installers from the MSOCache folder. When I run the "setup"
program for Microsoft Bootstrapper, it seems to run the repair function of
Office 2007, but for the other installers, either nothing appears to happen
with these, or I get the same error messages that call for Pro11.msi.
5. Not only is Office 2003 still listed in the Add-Remove Programs window,
there are other programs I no longer have that are listed, which I have
successfully deleted from the list, except for Adobe Reader 7.07.

Is there anyway to disable or remove the interfering Office 2003 components
without doing something not allowed by the license?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Desperate to fix and leave alone!

Trying to fix this will take an unknown quantity of time.
Rebuilding your machine will take a known quantity of time.
Take your pick.

Thank you. If there is an Office 2003 removal tool, I would be the happiest,
but I may take your advice. Are you meaning that I should reinstall the
whole operating system, or are you meaning that I should remove all Office
components and then re-install Office 2007? Thank you.

Sincerely,
Desperate to fix and then leave things alone!
