Overdrive tab missing!

I

Ivan

Since the introduction of the overdrive option, its tab got never installed
in the display properties on either of my machines (equipped with original
Ati 9600 Pro and Sapphire 9600 XT) in any of the Catalyst releases .

All I got is a "radeon probe driver" under "probe devices" in the hardware
devices. Is there any connection between this and the overdrive?

What seems to be wrong?

Thanx in advance!

Nothing wrong AFAIK. Until now Overdrive has only been enabled for the 9800
XT cards. The next Cat release will hopefully enable it for the 9600 too.

I thought as much until I saw some recent Radeon 9600 reviews showing the
overdrive tab.

Uhm.. I have an Overdrive tab in my settings and I'm using an ATI 9600XT.
These are the Cat 3.10 drivers.

I was just getting ready to ask if this actually does anything?

It's because you have disabled one of the ati programmes that start at boot.
This progamme is used to monitor the temp of the graphics card, if its not
running then the overdrive tab dissappears. its eaither atipoll or ati
smart.

I am afaraid this is not the cause of my problem. Under "administrative
services", ATI HotKeyPoller is automatically activated and ATI Smart,
although set to automatic, is stopped and I cannot start it and it says it
is because "...it has no work to do..."!?

Might have something to do w/ the motherboard temp sensors or chipset. Thats
just a guess though.
