OutlookXP 2002 Personal Address Book

I am not able to use the address book in Outlook XP 2002.
When I click the Tools > Address Book the following window
appears:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts
folder associated with this address list could not be
opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not
have permisions. For information on how to remove this
folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft
Outlook Help."

I upgraded from the Outlook 2000 Premium edition and tried
to import the .pab file but I have not been able to use
it. Now I have one .pab and one .wab file but OutlookXP
will not allow me to use either one of them. Does anyone
know what might be causing this and how to fix this
problem?

Thanks in advance,
SteveH

Outlook does not use either a PAB or a WAB in any version. You weren't using
either of those before. All your Contacts Data is in your Contacts Folder,
just like always.
All you needed to do was configure the Outlook Address Book Service to
display your Contacts Folder. Stop all this importing. Remove the PAB from
your profile. Add and configure the Outlook Address Book:

Russ,

Thanks for the information. This works exactly as it
should. I recognized this process from the last time I
went through it but the converted address book never
appeared when I tried to access it. This time I renamed
it and all the contacts appear as listed.

Thanks again,
SteveH

Address Books in Microsoft products Outlook are a complete quagmire. I'd
love to meet the developers who thought that we could work our way through
the maze of WAB's and PAB's only to discover that the address book in
Outlook doesn't even exist and is only a virtual address book. No wonder
everyone is so confused.
