I've got outlook2003 into a state where my old format mail file is >2GB and
now I can't do anything. Even shift-delete doesn't help. It looks like there
is a registry edit I can make to increase the max file size to get myself out
of this bind. Would you recommend this as a temporary fix to unlock the file
so I can delete some stuff and then reset it back to 2GB? What value should I
change it to? Thanks.

You need to crop your oversized PST file back to a usable size; see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296088

Next you'll need to create a new 2003-type PST file, then copy
(drag-and-drop) all items, folders, etc. from the old file to the new
one. (Use right-click drag-and-drop to choose between Copy and Move.)

N.B. Do *not* use Import to move the old items to the new file!

Thanks Pat - the various stages are incredibly slowto complete but I got
there in the end. Your input is much appreciated.

David
