I have a problem that has followed me for some time now. I'm convinced it is
a result of one of my PST files at because I'm experiencing the same issues
on my new computer that I was having with my old computer. In short Outlook
is unstable. It crashes for no apparent reason, I'm getting errors related to
an outlook log file, and I'm getting messages from my e-mail recipients
indicating that my attachments are getting stripped and leaving a *.dat file
instead and Outlook.exe is crashing and prompting to send a message to
Microsoft. When I add a certain PST file to my Outlook profile Outlook
becomes unstable. What really sucks is when I remove the PST file in
question, the corruption remains. Can anyone suggest a possible resolution,
or how I fix the PST file. I know there is a PST repair tool that fixes PST
file which Outlook can't open, however Outlook seems to open my PST file
without trouble. The problem is it crashes intermittently there after.

You need to see how large your PST file is. I would create a new one and
move some of the mail items to it.

Outlook does install a inbox repair tool for both PST and OST files. It is
usually installed at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
Double click on SCANPST.EXE with Outlook closed. You wil have to know the
path to your outlook.pst file to use this tool. You can search for this
file name in Windows Search. You can also use Windows Search for SCANPST.EXE
if it is not where I recommended. It does a while to run. Before running it
emply your deleted files folder.
