Outlook XP- how to synchronize Address Book and Contacts

Ever since I reformatted my boss's computer a while back, whenever he clicks
on the Address Book to send an e-mail, it says it is not synchronized with
the Contacts list, and suggests consulting Outlook Help to remove or edit
this folder. I am lost. I have not found Help helpful in this at all, and I
cannot find any posts of a similar problem on the internet. There are plenty
of contacts in the Contacts list, but there is nothing in the Address Book,
and you cannot send an e-mail to anyone in the Contacts List without retyping
their e-mail address. Any ideas??

What's the exact text of the warning message that he's getting? What version of Outlook? Is the Outlook Address Book in the mail profile? DId you check the settings on the Contacts folder to make sure it's marked for inclusion in the address book?

I am using Office XP.
The error message reads: "The address list could not be displayed. The
Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may
have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information
on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft
Outlook Help." This occurrs if I open a blank e-mail and try to retrieve an
address from the contacts list to send the message to. In other words, I
open a blank e-mail, then hit the "To:" button, and I receive this message.
When I click "Ok," which is the only option in the error message, it pulls up
the Address Book, which is blank.
I do not seen an option in the Contacts folder to mark it for inclusion in
the Address Book. Where is this option?
I do not understand what you are asking by "Is the Outlook Address Book in
the mail profile?" As far as I can tell, it is, but maybe there is something
that needs to be set that I'm not aware of. I have never had any problem
setting up Outlook before, so this is very strange to me.

I just tried running the Repair Tool in Outlook, and that did not fix the
problem. Also, I just noticed that when I click the word Inbox on the gray
toolbar just over the Folders List, it no longer gives me a folders list that
way. I noticed this before I ran the Repair Tool, and the Repair Tool did
not fix this problem either.

Ok, that worked, sort of, but it's displaying as "Address Book" instead of
"Contacts," since that's what I typed in. I tried typing in "Contacts,"
also, and it just gave me the word "Contacts" twice as options for retrieving
addresses. It still gives me the same error message when I click "To:" in a
new e-mail, but now when I click "Ok," at least I'm able to access the
addresses in my Contacts folder under "Address Book." I haven't been able to
find any way to make this the default location instead of what it's referring
to as "Contacts," which it's still telling me it can't access.

you need to remove the erroneous contacts folder. go to tools, email
accounts, view or change address books - select the Outlook address book
entry and choose Change. You should see two - the good one and bad one.
Delete the bad one. If you aren't sure which is the good one, delete both
and close the dialogs then go to the contacts folder in Outlook and right
click, choose properties and on the address book tab, enable it as an
address book.

This should set the good one as the default when you hit To, if not got to
Tools, Address book and look on it's tools, options menu - select the book
you want to see first.
