outlook wont send mail

Hi,

I have a broadband connection through a router on a small office network (my
PC is not part of the network - i just share the broadband line) and
outlook, which had been sending and receiving my email fine, has suddenly
refused to send anything - it still receives mail without problems. The
following error message comes up if i try to send email:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. '550 relaying to <[email protected]> prohibited by the
administrator (failed to find host name from IP address)'. (Account
'pop.iol.ie', SMTP Server:'mail.iol.ie', Error Number: 0x800ccc79).

I didn't change any settings since it was sending mail and I am an
administrator on the PC, .... I use a PC at another location to dial up the
same account and it sends and receives fine - so no problem with the service
provider ....

Any ideas anyone ?? (Replies to group or (e-mail address removed).)

Many thanks,

Garry

the receiving mail server changed their setting to block mail:

'550 relaying to <[email protected]> prohibited by the
administrator (failed to find host name from IP address)

I believe this error: "failed to find host name from IP address" means
reverse dns failed.

well, it all depends... if you have your own mail server, set it up to
report the proper name on of the IP. To find this out, I usually do a
tracert: at start menu, run, type cmd. at the command prompt, type tracert
1.2.3.4 where 1.2.3.4=your smtp server ip address. The top line of the
tracert should like the name and IP address. copy the name and paste it in
your smtp server.

if you are using another smtp server, contact the admin. it may not be smtp
related - but rather the program is looking at the ip of the shared
connection.
