Outlook won't send after XP SP2

Since installing Win XP Home XP2 e-mails stick in the outbox, and I get the
message "message could be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. Server response: '550 Administrative Prohibition'....."
I am using Outlook 2000 SP-3.

Are you using Norton 2005?

I had a similar problem along with another problem telling me to uninstall
and reinstall norton. So, after literally DAYS of poking around Norton's so
called HELP sites, I found
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...irewall&ver=2005&src=sg&pcode=npf&svy=&csm=no

Anyway, I went through this drill and it not only fixed the
install/uninstall message but now Outlook sends and receives without
rebooting the system; at least it has for the last 24 hours :-o

I'm afraid that doesn't help Andreas - I've tried it with & without
authentication. It was working fine until I installed good old SP2. I'm
using McAfee Personal Firewall Plus as my default firewall, but do you think
the one installed with XP SP2 might be doing something I don't think it is.
The error code I'm getting is 0x800ccc79 - on your forum you mention
firewalls as a posible cause of this error.

Thanks for your help

The problem briefly went away, then became intermittent, and is now back to permanent!

I cannot follow the instructions on the link on your last post Jeff - I don't have a logging check-box under Tools/Options/Other/Advanced Options - any ideas?

Just noticed that you have Outlook 2000. For that, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q240347 and post
the smtplog.txt file. However, first try enabling outgoing authentication
(see the "outgoing server" tab for your account) - it's likely that the
problem is you're not authenticating.

First attempt to send tonight worked fine - then blocked again.
I am connected to AOL and sending via Freeserve - could this be the problem?

I'm not sure AOL uses SMTP to send email. I don't think you can use an
other email client (such as Outlook, OE, Eudora etc.) to send mail while
connected to AOL. Other clients work fine for retrieving POP mail but I
believe AOL won't allow sending via SMTP through other accounts.

Check with AOL as to the proper SMTP server name - that name is not valid.
On the other hand, if you *can* send via freenet, why not just point the
outgoing server of your AOL account to freenet's server?
