Outlook will not send messages in "outbox"

Thanks for responding, Jeff.

The screen you want shows only the opportunity to install an "Exchange
extension property pages"; not a list of installed add-ins. (Too bad this
mechanism doesn't support HTML; I could show you the page.) However, I know
that Symantec Internet Security has installed their Anti Spam add-in, because
that has a critical race in it starting up Outlook. (I have already rattled
their cage about that.) I have to wait for it to blow up again to capture
the procedure for re-installing it; then I can remove it and see whether the
problem goes away. Thanks for the tip.

Well, you are perfectly correct, Jeff. After waiting for the Outlook startup
critical race crash (and capturing the way to reactivate the add-in, which
BTW is about as anti-intuitive as I can imagine), I disabled the Symantec
Anti Spam plug in, and lo and behold, deferred Send then works perfectly.
One more thing to bug Symantec about. Thanks for the help.

I have been following the dialogue. I too had the new Norton Anti-Everything
software. I have continually been having problems getting my Outlook to send
and receive. I have to reboot to get it to work once.

After reading Mr. Lincoln's email, I shut off my Norton Anti-spam and now it
works perfectly. Thank you Lincoln. Jeff, you may want to share this
information in your general outlook notes.

I have a similar problem, in the Outlook appears not to send the mail sitting
in the outbox - in oterh words it leaves the mail sitting there, rather than
moving it to the sent folder.

When this happens the message is italicized.

When I go to the outbox and press send/receive again, the mail usually gets
sent, and move to the sent box. It now appears that the recipients are
getting multiple copies of the mail - based on how many times I have tried to
get Outlook to send.

What version of Outlook do you have? What sort of mail account(s)? Do you
have anti-virus/anti-spam software configured to scan your outgoing mail?

Outlook 2002 - SP3.
The problem is intermittent, maybe once per day. I had an occurance last
night where the message was not in italics.

There appears to be some connection between which message is "unsent" and
whether I have viewed the outbox before sending. Compose a message, send,
but don't send/receive. Then view the outbox, move back to the inbox and
press send/receive. The message then does not get sent/moved correctly

I have Norton 2005 set up to scan for incoming and outgoing mail. However,
I thought that outlook passed the message to Norton - at which stage Outllook
considered them sent. This can be seen when sending a large message. The
message is currectly moved from outbox to sent - but when looking at the
connection status box it is clear that the message is still being sent

Turn off Norton's scanning of incoming and outgoing messages. This seems
to cause many more problems than it solves - if Norton will prevent a virus
from running (which most anti-virus programs do), checking messages is
superfluous. Indications in this group are that to turn of the scanning of
messages you need to uninstall Norton, then reinstall without the scanning
options.

Hello all,

I am not using any of Nortons stuff. I'm using Kaspersky. I have completely
uninstalled it and told windows not to monitor my virus status. The messages
will still not leave the outbox, they are still in itallics also.

It seems that nortons was the problem so far. I have not updated office
online, would you suggest that.

I have tried all things listed in this thread so far and still have not
fixed the problem. Please help.

Regards
Adam

I get no send button once both accounts are in outlook. If I delete one or
the other no problem, I get send buttons. It makes no sense.

Where do you get no send button? On the mail message itself, or no
send/receive button on the main Outlook window?

On the message itself. I have send/receive in the toolbar but it does not
help to get the message in the outbox.

Try Help -> Detect and Repair... One person I know who had this problem
fixed it with that...

I did that and it did not fix it when there are 2 accounts. I have to say
that it makes no sense that this program can not handle more than one
account, I have to delete one or the other to send an e-mail. Is it because
the pop and smtp servers are the same for the both accounts?

I have had this problem for two weeks. Nothing seemed to help. I finally
looked closely at my email addresses. There was one wrong address (no longer
exists) so I deleted it and hit the send button. It worked. I can't say why
for sure though because I usually send to the same groups of people and I'm
sure he was on some of the ones that did go through. There was just some
pesky ones hanging on.

Well, it certainly wasn't *designed* to not have a Send button when there's
more than one account - I'd never heard of such a problem before your post.
I'm pretty much out of my depth here, because I don't know much about the
toolbars, etc. What happens if you expand the message compose window
horizontally by dragging either the left or right edge - does a Send button
show up? If that doesn't help, try searching for and renaming the
"outcmd.dat" file (it's probably a hidden file).

I have had the same problem but only when replying to a message. The message
would just sit in the outbox (not italicized). I am running Outlook 2003
with Norton Internet Security 2005. I tried Dick Lincolns fix from 1/3 and
checked the "send immediately when connected" box in Tools>Options>mail setup
(tab)and that fixed the problem without having to disable any of Nortons
features (Email scan, Antispam).

That didn't do it for me. I am just giving up completely. I may have to
find another program to deal with e-mail. It just seems absurd to me that I
can not add another account, but that is the deal. I am very frustrated with
it! I appreciate the suggestion.
