Outlook will not completely shutdown...runs in background

Greg

When I doubleclick on Outlook icon in task bar, after I
shut down Outlook, I receive the following message:
Outlook is not responding. If you are using Exchange
server e-mail account, you can cancel pending server
requests by clicking the Outlook icon in the noification
area, and then clicking cancel server request on the
shortcut menu. The only way to stop Outlook completely,
is to "end process" in Process tab.

I am using an email account that goes through a server
for my company.

Outlook 2000 did not give me this problem.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Dear Greg:

I am experiencing a similar problem: After I shut down
Outlook, when I = click the icon on the task bar, it
doesn't reopen but I get no message. Then, I check task
manager and it shows several instances already open each
with a different PID. These I close by ending the process
after which I succeed in opening the program. Sometimes I
get a message saying the folder was not closed properly
and outlook runs a check on it. At other times I get a
different message which asks me if I want to open Outlook
in safe mode. Which message I get may depend upon the
order in which I end the process.

For some time, now, I have been receiving spam emails with
sender names that appear to spoof the names in my contact
list. I've noticed that soon after I add an entry to my
list, I get spam from senders spoofing the name from the
recent addition. Are you experiencing something similar?
I'm wondering if there is a connection and, if this is
happening to other users as well.

Thanks,

Roland

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Greg asked:

I have found that only some AV programs will keep Outlook in memory:
Specifically, Eset's NOD32. Norton Antivirus' email scanning works well
with Outlook.
