Outlook vs Outlook Express Security

I'm having a tough time believing that Outlook is far less secure than
Outlook Express.
I was wondering if there's any information out there comparing Outlook
(2000,XP,2003) to OE in regards to inherent security issues.

I realize that keeping up-to-date and applying patches affects this,
but is there anything out there discussing inherent differences in
security between the two. I know that they come from two different
code-bases and lines of development (Office vs IE).

My opinion is that, on the whole, both are equally secure (or unsecure, if
you wish). I don't have any references providing a comparison.

However, Outlook uses IE's HTML rendering engine, I'm told.

My opinion is that, on the whole, both are equally secure (or unsecure, if
you wish). I don't have any references providing a comparison.

It all depends on the version and if you have all of the patches installed.
Thanks to the email security in Outlook since June 2000, Outlook is much
more secure. Using the preview pane is as safe, or safer, than opening a
message.

I can't think of any version in particular. I'm trying to discover if
Outlook really is less secure than OE.

Overall, it would probably be comparing OE 5 or 6 to Outlook 2000 or
2002.

Oe6 compared to ol2000 is probably a wash - each has some security features.
OE5 to Ol2002 is no contest - OL2002 is more secure.
