What do you mean by ms mail? If it's the Windows Mail program, you have
two choices of how to import from Outlook: 1. Install Outlook, preferably
version 2003 or later, under Vista. Version 2002 also runs under Vista, but
with a few problems. Many, but not all, versions of Microsoft Office
include
Outlook. Windows Mail needs to use part of Outlook to be able to import
..pst files directly from Outlook. 2. On a older computer that has both
Outlook and Outlook Express installed, import the .pst file into Outlook
Express. Then use these instructions to transfer from Outlook Express to
Windows Mail:

The second site doesn't seem to be working today; you may have to try
it again later if the first site doesn't give you enough information. Bring
along the .wab file if you want your old contacts. After copying the files
to a directory on your new hard drive, but before importing them into
Windows Mail, make sure the copies are read-write instead of readonly.

Since we don't know what your exact needs are, we can't say
if Windows Mail (not "ms mail") will do everything you want.
It certainly doesn't hurt to try it.

by MS Mail I mean "windows mail" which comes now as the replacement to
outlook express. it works vry well for email but lacks an obvious palce to
import contacts like outlook had. i may simply buy new outlook if i can't
get the contacts as they are pretty important

it works well for getting and receiving mail but cant see where to import my
contacts like in outlook.

Well, Tools-Windows Contacts-Import seems pretty obvious to me....

trying to add the calendar now, i guess one key difference is the integrated
nature of outlook. gonna try this for 30 days and see if it works before
making on buying outlook

To import contacts from Outlook Express, bring across the .wab file
to a directory on your new computer's hard drive. Make sure this
copy is read-write instead of readonly. In Windows Mail, click on
Tools, then Windows Contacts. If Import doesn't appear on the
toolbar of the new window, right click on the empty space at the
right side of this screen, then click on Customize This Folder, then
the triangle, then Contacts, then Apply, then OK. If Import still
doesn't appear on the Toolbar, close the Contacts window and
open it again the same way. Click on Import, then Windows Address
Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then Import, then find the
..wab file and click on it. Click on Close, then close the Contacts
window.

One tip, Vista's Windows Calendar only imports from .ics format.
If your existing calendar won't export to that format, there are free
format converters available.
