Outlook tries to send a message although outbox is empty!?

Hello,

Although there is no message to be sent in the outbox, Outlook is
trying to send a message everytime it initiates a send/receive! I am a
remote location and connected to the web through a wiresless (secure)
network. My Outlook version is 2003 running under XP (SP2). What might be
the problem?
