Outlook is trying to send messages but he outbox is empty. Why?

I have recently been abroad and although outlook could receive, it conld not
send. I contacted my ISP who said that they don't allow sending from abroad
via outlook and I would need to use webmail. This i did but my outlook kept
trying to send an increasing number of emails. Eventually it was trying to
send 22 but there were none in the outbox.

When I got back to the UK i disabled my router as I didnt wan to send
something that I knew nothing about but my laptop found an unlocked router in
the area and sent 9 of the messages. I have now disabled the send function
alhough outlook is still trying to send 13 messages.

As i cant find ougoing messages I can't delete them. Has anyone experienced
anything similar? Does anyone know where i might find these messages? I have
run loads of anti virus/ malware software and it has always come up clean.
