Outlook stops responding when ActiveSync Running

W

Will Perry

I've come across a potential bug in Outlook 2003:

When a mobile device is connected and outlook is running, if outlook is
minimized to the Sys Tray (Notification Area) it stops responding until the
mobile device is removed.

The behavoir can be reproduced by starting outlook, attatching a mobile
device (and syncronising with outlook) then minimising outlook.

Anyone know of a fix (other than not using activesync and outlook
simultaneously)?

Many Thanks, WIll Perry

Does it work if you just minimize outlook to the task bar? FWIW, I use AS
and Outlook without problems, but Outlook is only minimized to the taskbar,
not the tray.

I would disagree, because I use Outlook 2003, have it minimized most of the
time and always have my Pocket PC cradled. Outlook continues to work, im my
case.

I can't reproduce this behavior.

Outlook continues to function normally when minimized to the TB - i
think i'll probably just avoid sending it to the notification area in
future.

I'm syncing with a SmartPhone - i can't see why the mobile device should
affect the performance of ActiveSync (or indeed outlook) but it definitely
happens! I've tried the same thing when at work (totally different hardware
and config) and the prob still occurs.

It's something with how Outlook work when in the tray and has nothing to do
with the specific device. I'll repro it and file a bug report.

I've got the same problem, closing Outlook puts an icon in the taskbar,
which gives a

"outlook is not responding. if you are using an exchange server e-mail
account, you can cancel pending server requests by clicking the outlook
icon in the notifications area, and then clicking cancel server request
on the shortcut menu."

error when double clicked. After much googling, I narrowed it down to
Activesync. If I take my Pocket PC out of the cradle, it "lets the
Outlook icon go", although the same problem reoccurs if you run / close
Outlook.

Do you know if there's a fix for this yet? I've just downloaded
Activesync 3.8.0 (5004) and it's still a problem.

Cheers )
