Outlook stopped working

I have been using Outlook for a couple of years, and now all of a
sudden when I click on the Outlook icon to run the program I get the
error, "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft
Outloo Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by
running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through
the Windows Update website."

Outlook came bundled with Office Professional. Previously (when it
was working) I had downloaded all the patches and updates and all was
well.

After the problem began, I tried running the "Repair" which didn't fix
it, then I uninstalled all of Office Professional and re-installed it,
then went back to Windows Update and downloaded the latest recommended
fix, but I still get the same error when I try to run Outlook.
Everything, except Outlook (Word, Excell and all the other bundled
programs) work fine.

I do have another problem which may or may not be related. Although
my computer seems to be working perfectly fine, I no longer am able to
Restore XP Home to any of the Restore points. When I go to System
Restore, I see restore points going back a couple of months (including
ones I initiated) but when I choose one it goes throught the motions,
but always ultimately comes up telling me that no change was made
because it was unable to restore my computer to the earlier date/
time. One other interesting thing I've noticed.... Under Control
Panel's Add or Remove Programs, neither Office Professional, Outlook,
Word, Excel or the other bundled programs are listed as installed
programs.

Anybody have any ideas as to where I should start and what I need to
do to fix these problems? I would be grateful for any help.

What version of Outlook? Did you actually uninstall Outlook Express?

It is bundled with Office 2002, so I believe its Outlook 2002, but
can't be sure as I can't open/run the program. I have not uninstalled
Outlook Express. Until the problem occurred, I had never installed/
used Outlook Express, but am using it now... at least until I can get
Outlook running again.

Office XP did include Outlook 2002, so that's what you have.

I don't have any ideas about your Windows XP issue or why no Office programs
are listed under Add/Remove Programs. What version of Internet Explorer are
you using? Just wondering because IE6 and earlier included Outlook Express,
but IE7 doesn't...I have seen some suggestions about uninstalling and
reinstalling OE, but many say it doesn't work anyway.

I am having the same issue. I haven't done all the work this user has. But my
computer is fine, everything is up-to-date, running Windows XP and Office XP,
and just suddenly Outlook won't boot because it can't find IE 4.01 or greater
- but I am running the absolute latest version of IE.
