Outlook shuts down several times every day. Any fix?

I am using Outlook 2003 with updates thru service pack 2. Several times
every day I get an unexpected error and the program shuts down and restarts.
The text of the message is "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Has anyone
else seen this problem and know how to fix it?

Check under Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advanced to see what add-ons or
plug-ins are installed. Could be some 3rd party product doesn't work well
with OL2003. You could also try using Outlook in safe mode ("outlook.exe
/safe") to see if any of the add-ons were screwing up.

I had checked before and I don't have any add-ons installed at all.

So what other actions did you try before posting (so we don't end up
duplicating those actions in further replies)?

Have you tried using Help -> Detect and Repair?

When you exit Outlook, did you check under Task Manager's Processes tab to
see if a remnant stub of code got left in memory under the outlook.exe
process? Was winword.exe still loaded after you supposedly exited from
Word? Both Outlook and Word have long-time defects that they may hang on
unloading, leave behind their process, and it interferes with subsequent use
of that application, other Office applications, and can even screw up
Explorer.
