Outlook sending multiple copies of email with attachments

I have Outlook 2003 and XP Pro. When sending emails with attachments over
1Mb the message stays in the outbox and reports an error that the sending
server times out, but many copies of the message are sent to the recipient
without any way of determining it until I get complaints. Can anyone shed
some light on this for me please.

The usual causes of this are 1) scanning outgoing mail with an antivirus
scanner (completely pointless), 2) a too-short send.receive interval, and 3)
a too-short server timeout value.

Ahhhhh, finally... someone who knows their stuff!

Many thanks for this information Brian. It worked for me.

I have just one question.

Is there any way to get rid of: "Microsoft Office Outlook is synchronizing folders" when sending large attachments? Since I'm not hooked up to an exchange server.

Thanks again,

You're welcome.

Sending/Receiving is synching for POP/SMTP. I don't think you can get rid
of it.
