Outlook scrolling uncontrollably when replying to email

My Outlook (2003) scrolls uncontrollably when replying to email messages, and
ultimately locks Windows XP up. I often have to do a restart in order to get
Outlook to close and the scrolling to stop. Virus software (Symantec) is up
to date and am running sever anti spyware apps. Machine seems to be clean.

Do you have voice recognition turned on and your microphone active? When did this behavior start? What did you install or uninstall just prior to this starting?

Are you using a laptop? If so, are you resting your palms or placing
them too close to the touchpad (which is the mouse)? That's why I
don't like laptops because they force you to suspend your hands over
the keyboard which accelerates fatigue, or you have to place your
palms to the sides for resting which cocks your wrists at an angle
which is also bad.

Voice recognition is not turned on and there is no microphone. Nothing new
has been installed or uninstalled.

No laptop, just a decktop PC.

Start Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe"). If that works
(to eliminate the sporadic mouse movement), you have an add-on
installed that is screwing over Outlook.

If that doesn't help, reboot Windows into its safe mode (with
networking) to see if the problem goes away. If so, you are loading a
program on Windows startup that is causing the problem.
