Uncontrollable scrolling

My computer has recently gone berserk. It will scroll to the end of the page
or top of the page uncontrollably. Sometimes it stops and lets me have
control, but sometimes it just flicks back and forth and I have no control
with the mouse, scroll bars or pageup/down buttons. I have Windows XP Home
Edition installed and when this problem started it seemd to be occasional and
is now almost constant. It happens in everything from word documents to
internet pages.
Any ideas?

Do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel? Mine gets dirty (to many cookies
at my desk!) and does that sometimes....

Maybe try a different mouse...or reboot without the mouse connected and try
opening something (yes...it can be done with keyboard shortcuts...if you
like a challenge!)

Thanks - I tried another mouse and problem solved! I had cleaned the ball of
the mouse, but not more than that, so I'm guessing that's the problem.
